AUBURNDALE, Fla. – In their first meeting since the 2017 College World Series, Wheaton College (MA) scored the final four runs of the contest to hand the 7th/9th ranked Beacons a 5-3 loss Sunday morning at Winter Haven Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a three-run third inning put the Beacons up 3-1, the Lyons recorded a run in four straight innings to take the win.
In the Beacons than go-ahead inning Nick Herzog (Riverhead, N.Y.) knocked-in UMB's first run of the day on an infield error to tie the game at 1-1. Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.) then made it a 2-1 ball game on a sac-fly to right center, which plated Charlie Huegi (Sandy Hook, Conn.). UMB's third and final run was also a sac-fly with Brandon Cellucci (Wynantskill, N.Y.) driving in Eddie Riley (Quincy, Mass.) on a deep fly ball to left center.
Unfortunately, the Beacons offensive surge was quickly countered by the Lyons, with Jared Sharkey making int a one-run game in the fourth on a solo shot. Nick Raposos then tied the game in the fifth on an RBI ground out.
In the sixth Brody Ashley hit an RBI single to second to give the Lyons their second lead of the afternoon (4-3). Raposo then sealed the win for the Beacons after scoring on a wild pitch.
The Beacons offense was held to just five hits in the contest, with Riley recording three of them. Nico Kydes and Danny Brown recorded the only other hits for UMB. Kydes also had the Beacons only extra base hit, a double, in the top of the second.
Tylor Arruda (New Bedford, Mass.) was handed the loss after allowing four runs on six hits over five innings. He also walked five and struckout four. Mike Doherty (Brewester, Mass.) allowed the only other run but did recorded three K's. Bobby Tramondozzi (Peabody, Mass.) also fanned two and did not allow a hit or a walk in an inning of work.
Joe Bongiovanni earned his first win of the year after going six complete innings in which he struck out five. Patrick Arter collected his third save of the season and had one K in the ninth.
