BOSTON, Mass. – With the holiday season in full swing, the University of Massachusetts Boston Division of Athletics and Recreation took time out of their busy schedules to give back to the local community.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Council in partnership with the UMass Boston Campus Kitchen helped to collect over 1,440 food items, with 900 of those items coming from Beacons Athletics. With all the contributions, the Campus Kitchen was able to create 190 Thanksgiving meal bags, which were sent to local charities and kitchens throughout the city of Boston.
"Thanksgiving is meant to be one of the many days of gratitude. The UACCESS and Campus Kitchen has done a wonderful job connecting and collaborating across our campus. Our student-athletes' attitude of gratitude has helped many turn a meal into a feast," said SAAC advisor and Associate Director of Athletics Tracey Hathaway.
SAAC President Steve Witkowski added "I am extremely proud of the student-athletes here in Beaconville. They came together this year and collected more goods than ever before for the food drive. It's always amazing when we can use our platform here on campus to help those in need."
